Cadence Richmond. The fifth and youngest member of XI-74 (excepting Brent Walker), Cadence is a Void Engineer with the Border Control Division. That means she’s spent a lot of her Technocratic time on the other side of the Gauntlet, or to be Technocratic about it, in outer space, defending earth from Things Beyond. Given the weirdest Convention runs the show out there she’s kind of lackadaisical towards authority. She’s also really used to solving her problems by blowing them up. Although her people skills are somewhat lacking, Cadence is the amalgam’s second best shot (after Mackenzie, of course)… and although she’s kind of glib and untalkative you might find she’s a surprising fount of knowledge about deviant subjects. She also has implants in her eyes, through which she does most of her Enlightened Science. With them she can see effects/procedures in action (the Prime 1 effect Watch the Weaving), detect life signs, identify forces and matter (Life 1/Matter 1/Forces 1), and even see extraplanar beings (Dimensional Science 1). She can see in ultraviolet, infra-red and even in complete darkness. They are kind of low-end Devices, though, which means 1. her eyes look weird – they’re this electric blue colour that she often has to cover up with shades, and 2. she gets unbelievable migraines if she doesn’t pop pills every six hours. This is not a secret in the amalgam, she has probably bitched about it once or twice.
